How to Grow Closer to God: 3 Signs You Might Need a Spiritual Reset
Kayla HarrisShare
You love God. You’re serving, showing up, trying your best. But lately something feels… off.
Don’t worry, you’re not alone.
In his letters to the churches, Paul offers much encouragement to run the race, which is our spiritual walk, with endurance. He implores us to grow in Christ, but if we’re being honest, that process isn’t always linear.
We slip. We fall. We remain stagnant. The first step to drawing near to the Lord again is recognizing that something isn’t quite right.
What is a Spiritual Reset?
A Spiritual Reset is a process you can go through to get back on track with your faith. It isn’t only for when you feel lightyears away from God. You can do one even when you feel like you simply need to get centered on Him again after a long week.
So how do you know for sure that you need one? I've got you covered. Here are 3 signs you might need a Spiritual Reset.
Slipping into Old Habits
The first and probably most obvious sign you need a Spiritual Reset, is if you’re feeling numb to sin and have slipped into old habits. If you’re at a point where you realize certain sins don’t exactly bother you anymore or being in the presence of ungodly things doesn’t rub you the wrong way, then it’s time to take inventory of your heart.
Struggling to Hear God
Imagine Jesus’ disciples not knowing where He was going or what He was doing. Scary, right? Struggling to hear God is essentially the same thing. We want Him to guide our lives and direct our footsteps, but if we can’t hear His instructions, then we’re basically going through life blind. Yes, sometimes God is silent. But not being able to hear Him is often a result of what we’re doing or not doing. Let me explain.
Sometimes we spend too much time consuming content and listening to other people that God’s voice becomes hard to discern. So if you feel like you can’t hear Him clearly, take some time to drown out the noise and center yourself on Him.
Relationship Has Become Merely a Routine
Sometimes it can feel like we’re simply going through the motions with our faith. We’re not growing but not necessarily backsliding either. We pray because we have to and read our Bibles because we know we should. They become things to check off a list.
When this happens, it likely means that somewhere along the way something else has taken priority in our lives, has become our source of joy, or our current way of spending time with the Lord is in need of a refresh. If this is you, then I’d recommend reflecting on where your heart has placed its treasure and finding ways to switch up your devotional time with Him.
Takeaway
If you resonate with any of these, don’t feel discouraged, girl. As I said before, you’re not alone. Most Christians, dare I say all, experience this at some point or other. The key is not remaining in this state because this does not have to be your reality.
